Advocacy and Leadership
Advocacy and Leadership can be seen in my course work, practicum activities, and work experience. The artifacts provided include a library facilities plan, a link to the iRead program, website creation professional development training lesson plan, and a grant application.
As an advocate for positive learning environments, I created a facilities plan for the Lower School library at Loganville Christian Academy. This project was coursework for FRIT 7132 Administration of the Instructional Media Program. The plan was presented using the iMovie application. The plan shows the current lower school media center, and the projected media center floor plan using the criteria detailed in FRIT 7132. Facilities Plan
The iRead program was also developed from an Advocacy Project group assignment in Administration of the Instructional Media Program. Taking the model created in FRIT 7132, I modified the program to meet the needs of the Loganville Christian Academy middle school and high school population. I enhanced the program by adding an interface to Google docs forms, spreadsheets, and graphs to collect and report the results of the reading program. Read and Reap Class Project / iRead LCA / iRead Too LCA
During this practicum I had the opportunity to deliver a professional development unit to the teachers at Monroe Elementary School. As of the 2013/2014 school year, all teachers in the Walton County School System are required to create their own class webpage using Weebly. Weebly training was offered all day in the media center for teachers and paraprofessional teachers to attend during their planning periods. I was charged with the delivery of the training for the kindergarten and fifth grade teachers and their paraprofessional teachers. Weebly Training Lesson Plans
At the Loganville High School Site, one of the tasks for candidate as program administrator required me to locate an appropriate grant for their media center. After meeting with the media specialist to identify their needs and where grant funds would be most effective, we focused on grants for a media center makeover. We were specifically interested in creating a comfortable reading area, and a docking station for the 1500 new iPads that were distributed to students this school year. I located the Lowe’s Toolbox for Education Grant. This grant was chosen because it offered funds to schools interested in making cosmetic changes to their library facility. Grant Application
